Overview

JATR accepts submissions exclusively through its online submission portal. The following guidelines integrate editorial best practices, technical formatting requirements, and compliance standards mandated by COPE, ICMJE, and OJS systems.

Tip: Review this page thoroughly before submission to ensure a smooth peer-review and production process.

Step 1 – Author Account Registration

  1. Go to the JATR submission page.
  2. Click “Register” to create an author account using a valid institutional email.
  3. After verifying your email, log in to access your Author Dashboard.

Authors may also update profiles with ORCID, affiliation, and funding details to streamline metadata collection.

Step 2 – Required Files for Submission

Upload the following files in the online submission system:

  • Main Manuscript File: Editable .doc or .docx format, without author identifiers.
  • Title Page: Includes article title, authors’ names, affiliations, and contact information.
  • Figures and Tables: High-resolution (300 dpi) TIFF/JPEG or Excel format for tables.
  • Ethical Statements: IRB/ethics committee approval and informed consent where applicable.
  • Cover Letter: Briefly describe significance, originality, and ethical compliance.
  • Supplementary Files: Datasets, video abstracts, or graphical summaries (optional).

Step 3 – Manuscript Preparation Standards

Follow the structure below for manuscript preparation:

Section Recommended Content
Title Concise, descriptive, ≤20 words; avoid abbreviations.
Abstract Structured (Objective–Methods–Results–Conclusion); 250–300 words.
Keywords 4–6 relevant terms separated by semicolons.
Introduction Brief context, objectives, and research rationale.
Methods Design, sample, ethics approval, and statistical analysis.
Results Use figures/tables; present numerical data precisely.
Discussion Interpret results in context; highlight limitations.
Conclusion Summarize implications and future research directions.
References Follow Vancouver style; ensure accuracy and completeness.

Step 4 – Technical and Formatting Requirements

  • File format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx).
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt, double-spaced.
  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
  • Include line numbers and page numbers.
  • Use SI units for measurements and scientific data.
  • Embed tables/figures at the end; provide descriptive captions.

Submissions must comply with accessibility standards (alt text for figures and proper heading structure).

Step 5 – Ethical Compliance

Authors must confirm compliance with the following:

  • Human studies follow Declaration of Helsinki (2013).
  • Animal studies adhere to ARRIVE guidelines.
  • Clinical trials registered in recognized databases (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov).
  • Informed consent and data privacy per GDPR and HIPAA (where applicable).

Step 6 – Metadata and ORCID Integration

Authors should ensure accurate metadata entry during submission:

  • Provide full names, institutional affiliations, and ORCID IDs.
  • Include funding information and grant numbers.
  • Add structured keywords (MeSH-based where relevant).
  • Confirm corresponding author email and country for indexing.

This data supports automated indexing by Crossref, DOAJ, and OpenAIRE.

Step 7 – Editorial and Peer-Review Workflow

The submission proceeds through the following stages within the OJS system:

  1. Technical Check: Verification of format, plagiarism, and scope.
  2. Editor Assignment: Section Editor allocates manuscript to reviewers.
  3. Peer Review: Double-blind process (2–3 reviewers).
  4. Decision: Accept / Minor Revision / Major Revision / Reject.
  5. Revision Submission: Upload revised file with response letter.
  6. Final Proof & Publication: DOI assignment, typesetting, and online release.

Step 8 – Figures, Tables, and Supplementary Data

  • Provide figure captions below each figure; avoid embedded text labels.
  • Tables must be editable, not images.
  • Color figures included at no extra cost.
  • Supplementary data files ≤ 50 MB; compress larger datasets or host externally (Zenodo, Figshare).

Step 9 – Proofs and Final Approval

After acceptance, authors will receive a PDF proof via email. Corrections must be submitted within 48 hours. Only typographical changes are allowed at this stage.

Best Practices for a Successful Submission

  • Use plagiarism-free, original content (≤ 15% similarity).
  • Include data-availability and funding-acknowledgment statements.
  • Confirm authorship order before submission.
  • Check all reference DOIs via Crossref before upload.
  • Preview your manuscript in PDF prior to final submission.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I need an ORCID ID?

Yes, at least one author (preferably the corresponding author) must provide an ORCID ID for Crossref metadata integration.

How long does peer review take?

Average time to decision is 3–4 weeks depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity.

Can I upload a preprint?

Yes. Preprints are permitted if clearly cited and linked to the final publication DOI after acceptance.
