Overview

Before submitting to the Journal of Addiction Therapy and Research (JATR), authors are advised to read and follow these guidelines carefully. They are designed to ensure quality, consistency, and ethical compliance in scholarly publishing.

Note: Submissions not adhering to these guidelines may be returned for revision before peer review.

Types of Manuscripts Accepted

JATR accepts the following article categories:

Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be organized in the following order:

  • Title Page: Title, author names, affiliations, and corresponding author contact details.
  • Abstract: Structured (250–300 words) summarizing objectives, methods, results, and conclusion.
  • Keywords: 4–6 relevant keywords separated by semicolons.
  • Introduction: Context and objectives of the study.
  • Materials and Methods: Detailed procedures, study design, ethics approval statement.
  • Results: Findings supported by figures and tables.
  • Discussion: Interpretation and comparison with previous studies.
  • Conclusion: Summary of main findings and future directions.
  • Acknowledgments: Optional; for contributions not qualifying for authorship.
  • References: Follow Vancouver Style.

Formatting Guidelines

  • Use Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.
  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced.
  • Page margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
  • Line numbers and page numbers should be included.
  • Figures and tables must be placed at the end of the document with legends.

References

Use the Vancouver referencing style. Number references consecutively in the order they appear in the text. Example:

Ethical Considerations

Authors must adhere to ethical standards in accordance with:

  • Declaration of Helsinki (2013 Revision) for human research.
  • ARRIVE Guidelines for animal research.
  • ICMJE Authorship Criteria and COPE Ethical Guidelines.

Studies involving human subjects must include institutional review board (IRB) approval and informed consent statements.

Conflict of Interest Declaration

All authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, including financial relationships, consultancies, or institutional affiliations that could influence interpretation of results.

Plagiarism and Misconduct Policy

All submissions undergo plagiarism screening using iThenticate. Manuscripts with similarity index above 15% (excluding references) may be returned to authors for revision or rejection. Fabrication, falsification, or data manipulation is strictly prohibited.

Submission Process

  1. Register or log in at https://www.addictiontherjournal.com/submit.
  2. Upload manuscript, cover letter, and supplementary files.
  3. Declare conflicts, funding, and ethical approvals.
  4. Review and confirm submission details before final submission.

After submission, authors receive a unique manuscript ID for correspondence.

Cover Letter Requirements

The cover letter should include:

  • Article title and authorship confirmation.
  • A brief summary (2–3 lines) of the study’s significance.
  • Declaration of originality and copyright transfer agreement.

Peer Review and Decision Timeline

All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review. Authors are notified within 21 days of the initial decision. Revised manuscripts must be resubmitted within 10 working days.

Proofs and Publication

Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting and typesetting. Authors will receive galley proofs for correction within 48 hours. Corrections must be limited to typographical errors only.

All published work in JATR is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). Authors retain full copyright while granting JATR permission to publish and distribute their work.

Can I submit my manuscript to multiple journals?

No. Simultaneous submission to more than one journal is considered unethical publishing behavior.

Are supplementary files required?

Not mandatory, but highly recommended for datasets, code, or high-resolution figures.
