Article Processing Charges

Overview

All articles in JATR are published under open access to ensure unrestricted public access and reuse. To cover editorial management, peer review, production, and archiving, the journal charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) only after acceptance.

Current APC Structure (as of November 2025)

All fees are exclusive of transaction charges and applicable taxes (VAT/GST).

Waiver and Discount Policy

To promote inclusivity, JATR offers full or partial waivers to authors who:

• Reside in low- or lower-middle-income countries (as per World Bank classification).
• Lack institutional or grant funding.
• Contribute invited reviews or editorial pieces.
• Serve as active reviewers or board members.

Waiver requests must be made during initial submission via the “APC Waiver Request” form or by email to [email protected].

Transparency and Compliance

JATR complies with Plan S and DOAJ Transparency Principles by:

• Publishing APC amounts publicly.
• Explaining what services the fee covers.
• Separating editorial decisions from payment.
• Documenting annual financial reporting for accountability.

No APC is charged for rejected or withdrawn manuscripts before acceptance.

Payment and Invoicing

Invoices are issued electronically upon acceptance. Payments may be made through:

• Secure credit-card gateway.
• Bank transfer (SWIFT/IBAN details on invoice).
• Institutional or funder payment systems.

Payments must reference the manuscript ID. Receipts are emailed within three business days after confirmation.

What the APC Covers

• Editorial management, coordination, and plagiarism screening.
• Double-blind peer review logistics and reviewer honoraria (where applicable).
• Professional copyediting, typesetting, and DOI registration via Crossref.
• Online hosting, XML/HTML/PDF formatting, and metadata submission to indexing partners.
• Digital preservation via LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, and PKP PN.

Refunds and Cancellations

Refunds are issued only in cases of duplicate payment or journal-initiated withdrawal before typesetting. Refer to our Refund Policy for full details. No refunds apply after publication and DOI assignment.

Institutional and Funder Support

JATR supports funder-based open-access mandates and accepts payments from recognized institutions such as the NIH, European Research Council, and Wellcome Trust. Authors should indicate funding bodies and grant numbers during submission to ensure proper acknowledgment.

Currency and Exchange Policy

Charges are set in USD. For international authors, equivalent local-currency conversions apply automatically at bank exchange rates. All intermediary transaction costs are borne by the payer.

Ethical Handling of APCs

All editorial decisions are independent of payment status. Editors and reviewers are blind to APC discussions. Payment processing is handled by the journal’s finance team under GDPR-compliant protocols.
