Abstract

The behavioral health field currently faces a severe retention crisis exacerbated by occupational stressors and systemic exhaustion. High turnover rates continue to cause more instability for organizations and the vulnerable populations they serve concerning continuity of care. As the workforce continues to burn out, the ones that stay are inundated further, increasing the unsustainability. This report introduces qualitative data that aligns and supports the Resiliency Wellness Model, a strategic framework positioning wellness as a solution that is achievable with administration focusing on three specific pillars to mitigate staff attrition, reduce emotional exhaustion, and reverse a depleted sense of personal accomplishment among the behavioral health workforce. This brief provides systemic steps to create an organizational plan that focuses on the factors noted by clinicians to better help and aide them in their development of resiliency to burnout and compassion fatigue that continue to attribute to the low numbers of behavioral health workers.
